About Nathan Earwood
Nathan, a native of Western North Carolina, has devoted his entire legal career to representing the rights of the accused. After graduating from Western Carolina University, Nathan went on to earn his law degree in 2003 from Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia. While in law school, Nathan interned with the District Attorneys’ Office as well as one of Virginia Beach’s largest and most respected criminal defense firms. Upon graduation, Nathan moved back home to Western North Carolina. From 2003 to 2012, Nathan worked as an attorney for Melrose, Seago & Lay, P.A., where he had been a partner since 2007. In 2012, Nathan opened his own law practice with Jackson County native, David Moore. Nathan’s vision for Earwood and Moore, P.A. is that they be known for their knowledgeable, well-prepared and aggressive representation of their clients.
During Nathan’s career, he has represented individuals accused of offenses ranging from minor speeding tickets to Capital Murder. Although the consequences and strategies differ in each case, his approach remains the same. Nathan believes in order for the client-lawyer relationship to be successful, there must actually be a relationship. It must be a relationship where the client feels comfortable and confident that their lawyer truly cares about their case. Secondly, there is no substitute for preparation. There is no consistent way for an attorney to reach the best possible result unless they take the time and steps necessary to be fully prepared in each and every case. Finally, an attorney must be open to negotiate, but willing and able to litigate and fight for their client. Nathan has always taken this approach and uses it to reach the best possible result for his clients.
Nathan is active in community, church and legal organization. He has served on various boards including the Criminal Justice Partnership Program, The Salvation Army and others. His past and present professional memberships include; Academy of Trial Lawyers, North Carolina Bar Association, Advocates for Justice, Young Trial Lawyers Association and others.
Nathan resides in Waynesville with his wonderful wife, the Honorable Kristina Earwood, who was elected as a District Court Judge in 2010, and their two young children. They are members of First Baptist Church in Waynesville and are active in their community.
